IT AIN’T ALL CONFETTI!
by Carol Kaufman Segal

Rip Taylor is a funny man – a very funny man, but he has a serious side, as well, which he shares in his one-man show, It Ain’t All Confetti, playing at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood.

An accomplished comedian, he confesses that he is worried whether audiences will accept his serious side, but he needn’t be concerned as his show has been a big success, a sell-out for every performance, and has been extended through June 6.

You must know the man; he has guest-starred in over 2,000 television shows including The Gong Show, Password, The Merv Griffin Show, The Mike Douglas Show, The Tonight Show, Late Night With David Letterman, The Ed Sullivan Show and Hollywood Squares.  And we mustn’t forget his hosting Chuck Barrie’s The $1.98 Beauty Show.  He has been a top headliner in Las Vegas where he was named “Entertainer of the Year” three times in a row.  He has played on Broadway, in touring plays and has appeared in movies.  It is no wonder that he was honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.  You will also recognize him by his madcap wigs and handlebar mustache.

Rip begins the show (which, by the way, is directed by David Galligan) with his usual comic shtick keeping the audience in stitches, then goes into the story of his life and how he became the famous comedian that he is, all the while, interspersing his story with a great deal of humor.  After all, Rip Taylor is a “consummate showman.”  Enjoy, a bit of confetti may fall on you, too.
