A CHORUS LINE
by Carol Kaufman Segal

If any one Broadway production has a chance to endure, it would have to be A Chorus Line, it never loses its appeal nor does it ever seem to become outdated.  It is simply One Singular Sensation.

With book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban, and original choreography by Michael Bennett (and co-choreographed by Bob Avian), Chorus Line will have you humming, singing, or whatever you do best, as you leave the theater.

It is instantaneous joy from its beginning when the stage is filled with a chorus of phenomenal dancers whose perfect synchronization, style and energy mark the opening of an audition of dancers seeking to work in a new musical.  Prompted by Zach (Derek Hanson) to talk about themselves, (he wants to know why and how they became dancers), each one reveals his or her dreams.  Only eight dancers will be chosen, so it is obvious that many will be heartbroken, only to continue on to the next audition in their lives.

This new production of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical has returned to the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles for only two weeks, closing June 13, 2010.  This national tour features a great cast.  The music is under the direction of Paul McCaffrey with wonderful songs that may be familiar including At the Ballet, What I did for Love, Nothing and, of course, One.
