On January 23, Michael Sterling
presented the talented and charismatic Jason Graae in his newest
show, Perfect Hermany: The Songs of Jerry Herman. Graae has starred
on Broadway and made his Metropolitan Opera House debut as a featured
vocalist with American Ballet Theatre. He has performed in every media,
television, concerts, commercials, movies, to name a few, and has recorded
over forty CDs. One has to see and hear him in person to appreciate his
many facets of talent. He is a comedian,, dancer, actor and singer with a
beautiful singing voice, and in his tribute to his friend, Jerry Herman to
celebrate his 80th birthday, he brings Herman’s songs to life. Graae makes
it a point to mention that Jerry Herman is probably the only Broadway
musical composer who, not only composes the music, but writes all of the
lyrics as well, great songs from Mame, Milk and Honey, La Cage Aux
Folles, Hello, Dolly, Parade, The Grand Tour, Dear World, Jerry’s Girls,
Mrs. Santa Claus, Miss Spectacular, A Day In Hollywood/A Night in the
Ukraine and Showtune.
Graae brought his comedic talent
to his performance at Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitello’s, offering
background on his friendship with Herman as he presented songs from some
of his shows: Just Leave Everything to Me, There’s No Reason in the
World, You, I Like, It Only Takes A Moment, Loving You, Before the Parade
Passes By, Tap Your Troubles Away, You’re My Best Girl, Marianne, Mrs.
Yakowbowsky, I Don’t Want to Know, I Am What I Am, Hello, Dolly, Wherever
He Ain’t, So Long Dearie, I Won’t Send Roses and Happy Ending.
The show featured Musical Director John Boswell. Graae also showed his
musical talent by accompanying himself on the piano for one number and
playing the oboe.
Michael Sterling continues to
showcase top performers at his cabaret, Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitello’s,
located upstairs from Vitello’s Italian Restaurant at 7249 Tujunga Avenue,
